Senior Data Engineer at Bloomberg | Data & Machine Learning
Engineering Leader | Data Products, AI & Scientific Computing |
Ph.D. in Oceanography
About
Multidisciplinary technical leader with experience spanning
data engineering, machine learning, scientific computing,
financial market data, and large-scale operational
environments. I build data products and analytical systems that
turn complex, high-volume data into reliable workflows, decision-support
tools, and business value.
At Bloomberg
LP, I lead cross-functional initiatives across data
engineering, machine learning, data management, and product
development, supporting financial-market workflows across
energy, macroeconomics, fixed income, equities, and commodities. My work
combines technical depth with product thinking: understanding the
problem, designing scalable solutions, coordinating stakeholders, and
taking systems into production.
My career began in physics and physical oceanography, where I
developed expertise in time-series analysis, statistical
modeling, signal processing, remote sensing, numerical modeling, and
complex systems. I have since applied those skills to financial
markets, machine learning, data platforms, software engineering, and
business problems.
I am particularly interested in problems at the intersection of
science, data, technology, and human decision-making,
and in helping teams turn research and emerging technologies into
useful, production-grade systems.

Energy
Physical Assets — Senior Data Management Professional / Data
Engineer
2026–present
Working at the intersection of energy data, data engineering, and
financial-market workflows, with responsibility for developing reliable
data capabilities and scalable solutions for physical-asset
information.
Macroeconomics
— Senior Data Management Professional / Data Engineer
2023–2026
- Reengineered the economic release calendar process
covering nearly 2,000 global indicators, replacing a highly manual
workflow with an integrated process for vendor annotation and
reconciliation, automated data validation, and task orchestration. The
resulting system eliminated approximately 280 hours of manual work
yearly while improving the timeliness and reliability of published
economic data.
- Automated critical inputs to fixed-income pricing
workflows by developing and deploying microservices for forward
calculations of Chile’s Unidad de Fomento (UF) and ANBIMA
inflation-assumption indicators. The solution removed manual calculation
steps and improved the timeliness and consistency of these data
products.
- Developed a Financial Conditions Indicator for
Brazil using principal component analysis and
dimensionality-reduction techniques. The indicator replicated the
methodology of the Central
Bank of Brazil and transformed multiple economic and
financial variables into a daily measure that supports macroeconomic
market monitoring.
- Contributed to the implementation and maintenance of
multiple ECAN (World Economic Analyzer) datasets, including
Brazil CPI, US housing and mortgages, India CPI, US CPI Core and
Supercore, and US PCE. Implemented the calculation of item-level
contributions throughout the underlying indicator hierarchies, helping
transform detailed economic datasets into structured analytical outputs
for one of Bloomberg Terminal’s most widely used functions.
- Bridged data engineering, analytics, and product
needs by working across technical and business stakeholders to
translate financial-data requirements into production workflows and data
products.
- Developed team capabilities by mentoring junior
analysts and data engineers, contributing to technical hiring, and
sharing engineering and analytical practices across the
organization.
Latin
America Data Analyst III / Senior Data Scientist
2018–2023
- Built and maintained more than 30 production data workflows
and ETL pipelines supporting global financial data products.
These systems processed millions of records daily and enabled reliable,
continuous delivery of data to Bloomberg clients.
- Improved the detection of data-quality issues in
fixed-income and company financials by developing and deploying
custom machine-learning models for anomaly detection, helping identify
unusual observations that could affect downstream financial data
products.
- Explored new data-product opportunities through applied
research, including a proof of concept for soy and corn
crop-yield forecasting that combined machine-learning and analytical
techniques with agricultural data to evaluate a potential new source of
financial-market insight.
- Supported data-driven journalism and business
research by providing analytical research for Bloomberg
journalists and stakeholders, including analysis of Brazilian investment
funds and major donors to political candidates.
- Expanded data-science knowledge across teams and
audiences through mentoring, one-on-one training, group
sessions, and public outreach on programming, data analysis, and data
science.
- Represented Bloomberg in educational and public-outreach
initiatives, helping clients and students understand practical
applications of data science and analytics.
